New Principal's Blog - New Academic Year

6th September 2016

I have the privilege of taking on the role of Principal at Manor Croft Academy at such an exciting time in the school’s journey.  It is my firm belief that all students should have the opportunity to experience an outstanding education and I will endeavour to ensure that we provide this at Manor Croft Academy.  We have spent the last few months planning to ensure that the new academic year is our most successful ever.

There has been a lot of work put in over the summer as we prepare for the new academic year.  A number of classrooms have been completely refurbished including the whole English corridor. This is part of our commitment to provide an outstanding learning environment to support teaching and learning.  We have also invested in new computers in three of our ICT suites and the Library.

A huge 'thank you' to all parents and carers who have supported our new behaviour policy that was implemented in the summer term.  This will be rolled out across all year groups over the coming weeks to ensure that lessons are completely focused on teaching and learning to allow our students to reach their full potential.

We made some fantastic teaching appointments in the summer term and colleagues are excited to be part of our journey of improvement at Manor Croft.  We are investing heavily in professional development for our staff so that they are able to deliver the highest quality of education to our students.

As always we live in a time of change in education.  You may have read in the media that from 2016 onwards schools are now judged on the new ‘Progress 8’ measure (this is a measure of a student’s average grade across a set suite of eight subjects).  I am pleased to say that the Academy has moved forward significantly on this measure.

I would like to take this opportunity to congratulate the Year 11 leavers as they take their next steps into employment, education and apprenticeships.  I would also like to thank the staff for their dedication and commitment in supporting our students to achieve these outcomes.

I am keen to develop links with parents and the local community, I encourage you to get in touch and feedback on the changes that we are making to improve our Academy.  As always we appreciate your support and look forward to working with you over the coming years.
