GCSE Exam Results Day, Thursday 20th August 2020

Dear Parents/Carers of Year 11 Students

Following the national decision to cancel the external summer exams, we wanted to update students and parents who may have queries about the awarding of grades this year. Grades in 2020 will be awarded following the normal schedule, but the process followed will be very different to usual.  Exam boards will be awarding a calculated grade that they will determine. They will do this using information provided by the school and combine this with other statistical data they hold to review and moderate the student data and determine a suitable grade to award students for their qualification. The final awarded grade may therefore be different to the centre assessed grade that we submitted to the awarding body.

It has been confirmed that results will be published to students on Thursday, 20th August 2020. This is GCSE Results Day.

At Manor Croft Academy, we have introduced time slots for students so that we can comply with the current guidance regarding social distancing, for students who would like to receive their results at school. You should already have received information regarding your time slot, however, please see below:

Surnames A to E 9.00am – 9.15am

Surnames F to L 9.15am – 9.30am

Surnames M to R 9.30am – 9.45am

Surnames S to Z 9.45am – 10.00am

Ofqual has published a student guide for those receiving qualification results in England this summer. They have produced this guide to help students and their parents and carers understand how results have been awarded this year. It also provides a useful summary of what to expect, questions and answers and details of support available. If you are unable to access the document via the link above, please ask your child to let us know when they collect their results from the academy and we will provide a hard copy for you on Results Day.

In compliance with the instructions from Ofqual, we are unable to share the centre assessed grades with students, or their parents/carers or any other individuals outside the centre, before final results have been issued.

Once grades have been issued on 20th August, students who feel that their grades do not reflect their ability will have the opportunity to take their GCSE exams in an autumn examination series between the 2nd and 23rd November 2020. The deadline for students to request entry to the examination series in November is the 11th of September 2020. Requests should be made directly to the academy. Information regarding how to request an examination re-sit will be shared with students on Results Day and further information will be made available on our website.

We want to ensure that all Year 11 students progress successfully to an appropriate destination in September. As a result, we have worked closely with our Post-16 partners to ensure that Year 11 can smoothly make the transition from Year 11 into Year 12.

As it currently stands, we have not yet been able to celebrate the culmination of the hard work and time that our Year 11 students spent with us as we normally would. We continue to monitor the situation and we are still hopeful that we will be able to celebrate their achievements at some point in the future when it is safe to do so.

Finally, I would like to thank you for your patience and support as we all work together, to support our school community.

Yours faithfully
Mr Hewitt, Principal
