A group of MCA Year 10 students visited Greenhead College today, one of the highest achieving 6th form colleges in the country. They were given the chance to experience lessons in the courses they are interested in studying once they have gained their GCSE qualifications. Meeting teachers and current students provided a fantastic opportunity to gain insight into the culture of the college and establish whether it was the right fit for them. There were also talks on PAWS week - a week long work experience program attended by all students in Year 12, as well as information on the tutor support structure. All students at Greenhead spend time in enrichment activities timetabled into each week and with over 100 to choose from the choice is vast. For some it was a shock to hear about the expectation that 12 hours a week are spent on independent study outside the classroom! This really emphasises the focus and effort needed when studying A-level subjects.
Our students had a fantastic time and I'm sure a significant number will be putting in an application once the process starts in the autumn term.
