Holocaust Memorial Day 2020

Monday 27th January 2020 marked Holocaust Memorial Day (HMD).  Between 1939 and 1945 approximately six million people were murdered at the hands of the Nazis.  Most were Jewish.  However, there were also gypsies, homosexuals, mentally ill people, opponents of the Nazis and disabled people. HMD is a day set aside internationally for people to come together to think, reflect and remember those people who perished.  The hope is that a greater understanding of such events will ensure that the same mistakes cannot happen again.  Greater poignancy is added to the event this year as 2020 marks the 75th anniversary since the liberation of Auschwitz.  During week commencing 27th January each year group has had an assembly to mark HMD and to discuss and reflect upon the Holocaust.  Our students showed immense levels of maturity, empathy and intelligence during these assemblies and we hope that what they reflected upon will help bring about an even greater tolerance and respect for each other.
