Year 11 Historians recently attended the Royal Armouries in Leeds. The purpose of the trip was to undertake some work around the Anglo-Saxon and Norman aspects of their up coming GCSE. Not only did they have some valuable input from the professionals at the Armouries, but they got to recreate the famous battles of Fulford Gate, Stamford Bridge and Hastings from 1066 in the Tilt yard using replica equipment. It was a fun and valuable learning experience and our students were excellent throughout. We don't get many opportunities for hands on history and it was good to see them revising the finer points of early medieval battles whilst acting out being a real-life Viking, Anglo-Saxon or Norman.
